Choose the right frame extraction interval
A shorter interval gives more candidates but also more duplicates, memory use, and selection work. Match the interval to how quickly meaningful visual information changes.

0.5 to 1 second
Use this range for gestures, exercise form, product movement, quick demonstrations, or searching for a precise facial expression. Expect many near-duplicates.
A fixed half-second sample still does not capture every source frame. At 30 frames per second it selects only one moment from each group of roughly fifteen frames.
2 seconds
Two seconds is a practical starting point for ordinary social clips, interviews with visual changes, recipes, and short tutorials. It creates enough context to find scenes without overwhelming the gallery.
After identifying the best region, use a shorter interval or a frame-by-frame editor for the final choice.
5 to 10 seconds
Use wider intervals for lectures, meetings, travel footage, long demonstrations, or first-pass storyboards. This is an indexing step rather than a final extraction.
Scene cuts can happen between samples. If complete scene coverage matters, combine interval sampling with manual review.
Estimate output before starting
Approximate image count by dividing video duration in seconds by the interval. A 90-second clip at two seconds produces about 45 frames; at half a second it produces about 180.
FrameFlow limits output to protect browser memory and server capacity, so use the widest interval that still answers your question.
Account for FrameFlow’s preview cap
The current local workflow shows at most 24 preview frames. When a video would produce more candidates, FrameFlow increases the effective spacing so the preview covers the timeline rather than exhausting browser memory.
For example, a two-minute local video cannot display every two-second sample in one 24-image gallery. Use the first pass to identify a useful region, then work from a shorter authorised clip or rerun with settings appropriate to that segment.
Validate coverage before downloading
Read the first and last timestamps and scan the gallery for missed scene changes. If the sequence jumps over the action you need, shorten the interval; if it contains long runs of duplicates, increase it.
The best interval is therefore an iterative decision, not a universal number. It depends on visual change, video duration, the current output cap, and how precisely the final image must represent an event.
